The purpose of this notification is to inform you of a unique regulation in the state of California – California Proposition 65 – which ONLY applies to the residents of the State of California, not to residents of any other U.S. state or territory, or to residents of any other country.

Proposition 65, officially the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, is a law that requires warnings be provided to Californians when they might be exposed to chemicals identified by California as causing cancer or reproductive toxicity. The warnings are intended to help Californians make informed decisions about their exposures to these chemicals from the products they use. Proposition 65 applies to businesses (with limited exceptions) that operate or sell products in the State of California, including those businesses located both inside and outside of California that sell products to people in California over the Internet and through catalogs.

Under California Proposition 65 (“Prop 65”), no warning is required when a listed substance occurs naturally in a food product and is not the result of “known human activity.” It is generally understood that lead and other substances listed under Prop 65 naturally occur in the environment and may be present in trace amounts in many natural ingredients, including plants and herbs such as teas and tisanes.

All products from Hankook Tea are within the FDA suggested guidelines for any/all of the chemicals listed by Prop 65 and can be safely consumed. While we are exempt from providing Prop 65 warning on products manufactured by Hankook Tea and sold directly by Hankook Tea U.S.A., Inc, claiming any exception and determining not to publish a Prop 65 warning may result in expensive and time-consuming legal proceedings.

It would be nearly impossible to test every product we have for all 900+ substances on the Prop 65 list. For this reason, and out of an abundance of caution, we have chosen to publish the warning on our website to notify you, our valued customer, so that you can take the necessary steps to conduct your own due diligence.
